Language

So, I’m not sure why, but I’m actively trying to get some words and phrases replaced in the english language. It’s a hobby of mine.

Phrase 1 – MOG

The underdog in this whole event, MOG is a relatively unknown acronym-pronounced-as-word. It stands for “Mall of Georgia”, which we live quite near to. It’s a great acronym, being as spelling the word out is a massive 4 syllables, and saying MOG is a quick 1. So next time you want to goto the mall of Georgia, just say instead that you, “wanna hit the MOG.”

note: it doesn’t help that this acronym is a character in the popular Final Fantasy series of games. Alas.

Phrase 2 – Internet Acronyms of all sorts

This one is leet++. In my life, perhaps on accident, I have started incorporating acronyms used in Internet instant messaging and chat rooms into my grammar. Examples.

No Problem – I say np, pronounced “nee-pee.”

Be right back – I say brb, obviously “bee are bee.”

laughing out loud – I say lol, “ell oh ell”… which is especially ironic because by saying “ell-oh-ell”, I’m not actually laughing out loud at all. Awesome.

Phrase 3 – Internets

Given good ole Ted Stevens beliefs about sending Internets, I have embraced the word “Internets” as a full-time replacement for every usage of the word “Internet.” Something about making it plural makes me giggle.

FL: Need a kidney? – Randon Iranians will HOOK THAT UP.

I’d like to go on record as saying that I’m a little worried about your interpersonal skills here man. I mean, do you actually say “bee are bee” to real people, that are physically there and intelligent enough to realize what you are doing? Or, are you saying that to like chairs, desks, pens and pencils? Either way, I’m a little worried man.

adam, maybe you should be more concerned for those of us that he says it to (i.e. me). it might drive us insane.

I use mog all the time. But I end up sounding like Rachael Ray. “Mog. Mall of Georgia.” EVOO. Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

wouldn’t “no problem” be “en pee”, not “nee-pee”?
