Recap: August 5th – 11th

Alternate title: Though it’s no easier to get to sleep when your entire right leg is cramped up, at least you’re not laying there worrying about money.

Note: The alternate title refers to my experience last night, where for whatever reason, my right leg’s muscles decided it would be a good plan to try and implode on themselves, and allow me to experience the requisite pain for about 12 hours yesterday. It’s feeling sorta better now though.

What we giggled at: One of the sure ways to make Eric giggle is the all-famous funny t-shirt site, in all its potential forms. Here’s this week’s pwnorizer in that regard: woot.

What we thought about: Thinking is hard. Not thinking isn’t. Not that it requires alot of thought, but here’s my post about scaling from a game I’ve been playing: All Drawings Are to Scale, or Something.

FL: (courtesy of JB) Star Trek Motivational Posters – alot of these go way over my head, but some of them are pretty funny. Example:

Yo, do you know how to embed a YouTube movie into a WordPress blog. It looked like one of the templates would work, we dont host our own stuff. . . soo. . . there is that.

Just saying wordpress isn’t coming though all the ways blogspot did.

From:

This thread -

To insert YouTube videos in your WordPress blog do the following:

1. Login to WordPress admin
2. Go to Options >> Writing
3. Uncheck borht Users should use the visual rich editor by default & WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically
4. Go to Write >> Write Post
5. Paste the ‘embeddable player’ code for your YouTube video in the write box
6. Publish video

That’s all there is to it!

In my opinion this should also work in the HTML pop-up window in the rich-text editor…but for some reason it doesn’t. Perhaps someone with a little more PHP coding experience can answer or correct this…

Hmm. . we only have these two check boxes

[Formatting:
Convert emoticons like :-) and :-P to graphics on display
WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically]

Any other ideas?

Tried my test wordpress.com one, here’s how I did it:

Goto the Dashboard.

Users

sub-menu: Your Profile

Uncheck: “Use the visual rich editor when writing”

Save.

Goto write, and paste in the embed code that youtube gives you.

Publish post.

Undo the checkbox changes you did above if you want, I prefer the bland text editor, but I’m used to typing in all the bold, link, and formatting tags by hand. Your mileage may vary.

what a boring discussion on this post. I was totally expecting some bashing on the star trek pic.

I emailed you my infor for wordpress to see if you could give it a go. Let me know if you find something.

Good news. I figured it out. It just used a wierd version of HTML that I was not used to, it uses brackets and then youtube= then the site. Different, but got it.

PS The old generation of star trek sucked TNG is the only thing that was worth watching, with the small exception of DS9. I wasn’t allowed to say any of that on my blog because my wife won’t let me talk about the days when I used to watch Star Trek after she found my science officers uniform.

Oh I see you found it, thank you.
