TLDR

If someone linked this post as a comment on your blog, I have some bad news. Your post was simply too many words for the commenter to read. Try and use less words to make the same point next time, which is a skill we all are in the process of learning.

Ahh, eric and his acronyms. Will it ever end?

This one, TLDR, is one of my current favorites. It stands for:

Too Long, Didn’t Read.

In the blog world, this one should receive a well-received welcome. Posts that are “TL” (too long) and therefore aren’t read are quite common, whether their authors would like to admit it or not. I’m sure many of you have done it to my posts before. Hell, you might even be doing it to me right now! If so, hahaha you’re not leet, I can say whatever I want about you, because you’re not reading this!

Anyway, this phrase, at least where I first saw it, was on the World of Warcraft game forums, when someone would post a 16-paragraph analysis of something that was pissing them off. In reply, smart alecs would post simply “TLDR” and leave it at that.

So, in the future, if you find a blog post too long, and you want to break it to them politely and without too much fanfare that you just couldn’t read it, just copy and paste the following code into the comments section, and it will link back to this post, which will explain to them gently the error of their verbosity:

good idea for a blog entry, and a way to boost your traffic. Nice… You’ll have to update if you get some hits on this from that
