The cult of the exclamation mark (!!!!11one)
Wanna join my cult? I promise it’s leet.
You see, at some point in the past of the internet, a young lad, in a fit of excitement and yelling-with-text, was holding down the Shift key as well as the “1″ key, and accidentally let go of the Shift key before the one key. Which results in something like this:
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111
A fairly common mistake, you’d think, it’s pretty easy to do. You may have even done it yourself, on accident.
Well, anyway, a sort of cult following and secret lingo has risen up around this phenomenon. Huh? Well, let me explain. You see, it turns out, there’s lots of way to represent a “one”, or even more appropriately a lot of one’s. Let’s review:
1 - the baseline for all this silliness. Either on purpose or for humors sake, you let go of Shift and let the 1’s flow.
Example: THIS BLOG ROX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111
one, eleven, eleventy one, onehundredeleventyone - Now we’re talking some good variations. All the different leet ways to represent a “1″ in text form. Let’s revise our original example:
Example: THIS BLOG ROX!!!!!!!111oneonehundredeleventyone!!111
Man. I can just feel the power in this statement.
shiftone, ONE - A spin-off from the “one” crowd, shiftone and ONE mean to highlight the depths of absurdity that one who really wants to push this joke to the limit. The whole “ONE” aspect is especially entertaining, because typing “one” with caps is really just holding shift and pressing one, which is of course a “!”. Credits to the wife for that tumultous logic bomb.
Example: THIS BLOG ROX!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111oneoneoneshiftone!!111
cos(0), 0!, a whole slew of other geeky math ways to say “1″ - A form being primarily “explored” by the d10’s, the possibilities are endless on this one. There are alot of ways to say 1 in math.
Example: THIS BLOG ROX!!!!!!!111cos(0)oneone0!cos(0)!11
Dang. This is the cutting edge of “!!!!!11111″ research.
Just one last note, its common courtesy for there to be a progression with these things. That is to say, if you’re going to use this stuff, make sure you start with “!!!!” ’s in your…uhh.. setup, and then go for a couple “1111″’s, and then feel free to freestyle. It’s your excitement, rox it how you want to!!!!!!!111oneoneshiftoneeleventyonecos(0)ONE!!111111
FL: casefancasefan - This guy works at a computer sto’. He noticed they had a whole lot of those fans they put in computers. Like, 30+ of them. So he builds a case for his computer out of these fans, so that all the way around the guts of the computer, there’s fans spinning. Thanxxor to big Jduv for the link. His blog has a “Nerdular Nerdance” category. That pwns.
i am particularly proud of my zero factorial (0!) contribution. but really, I’ve done the proof of 0!=1 and it still blows my mind. plus it fits into the !!!111 series so seamlessly.
a couple other ideas:
sin(π/2)
cos(x)^2 + sin(x)^2 x ∈ ℜ
or maybe if you feel like an infinite series…
∑{n=1..∞}[1/(2^n)] approaches 1
if you want, i can bring forth some of my math books when i get to georgia tech today…
how about -(i^2)?
yeah Im bustin out complex numbers yo.
on the topic of 0!, check this out:

that’s a cool computer …
I actually like (-1)^2 . That is my personal contribution.
