Day guy vs. night guy
On an old episode of Seinfeld, during one of the stand-up comedy segments, he’s talking about how you have two aspects of yourself, day guy and night guy. Night guy, that is, the person you are at night, always tries to convince you that staying out late won’t make you all tired, effectively screwing day guy.
When I heard this for the first time, I thought it was ridiculously funny, if for no other reason because its true in my life. Hundred’s of times I have tricked my poor body that staying up till x:xx time will not be too big of a deal, I’m still gonna get 5 (or 4 and a half, or 4) hours of sleep and I’ll be fine for work/church/you name it. Sometimes, this is true, and night guy is actually being truthful. Alot of the times, I end up groggy.
It doesn’t help that doing this perpetually eventually makes you nocturnal, which is a baaaad thing to be in a diurnal world.
I have to give day guy some credit. He’s a pretty good trooper though, and puts up with night guy’s crap, day in, and, err, day in.
Furious George and the Cross-Country Crime Spree – moderately entertaining at best, must be some sort of promo/viral marketing for some book. meh.
I gotta say, as I get older, every time night guy has the whim to…oh, I dunno… to stay up till 3am working on a computer day guy pays a higher price than he used to. Night guys wins less these days, but when he does win, day guy looks rough.
just as a quick update, apparently this post was more timely than I had previously thought possible:
Last night the wife went to bed at 9:30, and I played computar for another hour, and rolled into bed at 10:30. Couldn’t sleep till 11, got up, did some more gaming till around 12. Went back to bed, tossed back and forth for another hour (1am). Got up *again*, played computer till 2, went back to bed. Didn’t sleep till somewhere around 2:45.
Just goes to show, sometimes that jerkface night guy can mess you up, and not even get alot out of it. I should have just gamed from 9:30pm to 2:30am, woulda slept the same amount anyway!
Night guy tends to make me late for work…
day guy is usually too lazy and so he leaves all his work for night guy to do. since most of you guys aren’t in school anymore, all-nighters are no where near as easy as they were thursday nights in the fall of 1999.
Night guy is unreasonable – he will not listen to reason when someone tries to talk to him about day guy. He almost doesn’t admit day guy exists. Maybe it’s because he doesn’t know day guy. I guess they’ve never met, and what can day guy do to get back at night guy? Nothing that I know of!
