Geek guys rule.

In some small way, this post is a continuation of the now-famous “Stuff Ladies Didn’t Know, And Probably Could Have Lived The Rest Of Their Days NOT Knowing And Be Just Fineseries, except this time it’s stuff the Ladies Didn’t Know, and Should Know! Read with confidence that this is true.

Today’s post is an offshoot of today’s funny links, and will pull from them extensively: A Girl’s Guide to Geek Guys and Geek Guys.

As an introduction:

So, your crush on the bass player from Vibrating Sandbox has finally died a whimpering death and you’re wondering where to go from here. All the sinister dudes are either dating a series of interchangeable high-school riot girls in baby doll dresses and an overdose of manic panic, or permanently shacked up with some bitter old lady who pays all the bills. Which will it be, a wifely prison or a humiliating one night stand? Into this void of potential mates comes a man you may not have considered before, a man of substance, quietude and stability, a cerebral creature with a culture all his own. In short, a geek.

I couldn’t agree more, probably because I’m a geek. Being a geek however, I like to use logic. So let’s examine this first link’s reasons:

1. They are generally available. – What can I say. When “the wife”, that is, my wife, found me, I was available. Geeks as a whole tend to goto less social events that “normal” people goto, and their “game” is typically not as on as more socially adept dudes.2. Other women will tend not to steal them. – Even better than reason 1! As long as the female populace as a whole fails to realize how great geeks are, life is good.

3. They can fix things. – Rox on. The geek mindset is predisposed to fixing and improving. How helpful.

4. Your parents will love them. – Haven’t really seen this one play out in my own relationship, but they certainly are accepting of me =) [as far as I know.]

5. They’re smart. – Not much to say here. They can at least act smart, which is useful.

Although this list should be plenty to convince any female that obviously a geek guy is the best type of guy, there’s more!

Now, to shift gears. Let’s analyze some specific areas of geek lifestyle that are very important/attractive. This pulls from the second link:

Music – This can be anything. In fact, what makes this a common element among Geek guys, is their love of music and variety of it. Everything from Rock to Alternative to Classical to Oldies to Opera to Folk music. One thing I have seen is a tendency to dislike Country music. I’m not quite sure why this is.

Eric’s notes on Music: Definitely true, at least in my experience. Both the fact that there’s variety, and that country is deh sux.

Romantic – Geek guys are romantic. Yes, Geek guys are the hopeful romantics of the world. They want to be the Knight in shining armor, the poet of love, the bearer of gifts. He will bring you flowers and candy on Valentine’s Day. He will remember your birthday. He will take you out to dinner in a nice restaurant.

Eric’s notes on Romantic: From the geeks I’ve known and my personal experience, this is uber-true. Hopefully the wife will chime in, in depth, on the content of this post…

Passionate about Pleasure – When the glasses come off, watch out. A Geek guy is very passionate and has a hidden wild streak. He is very eager to please and be pleased. If you have a fantasy… he will try to fulfill it, especially if the fantasy involves role-playing. And your Geek guy probably has a couple of fantasies that would make a sailor blush. Ask, you might be surprised. Geek guys can be serious hedonists.

Eric’s notes on Passionate about Pleasure: … but I hope the wife doesn’t comment too much about this, other than an emoticon of some sort, hopefully not this one ;( . As for my notes… I agree with the information presented here.

I think that about covers it. Geeks and wives/girlfriends of geeks, please comment as you see fit, as well as any of you with questions.

I must say the info on these posts is pretty much true, besides the star trek stuff. I think that may be because I as most of you are probably a spinoff group from the general geek, being the purist computer geek, and since star trek involves a TV its not really a part of our lives.

I am a geek and I’m proud of it

hmm, where to start….

well, to comment on the previous comment, I happen to like Star Trek quite a bit. I grew up watching The Next Generation every week night.

moving on . . . geeks – Eric is definitely a geek. I wonder sometimes how he is ever away from the computer at all. Well, I guess I am hot and quite distracting . . .

1. yes, he was available when I came around.

2. I’ve never had to fight off another woman.

3. hmm, not always looking for a fix, but he does come in handy for helping me out in my school classroom! He is also very persistent until something is fixed.

4. they do. not really sure about the reverse . . .

5. I will never understand the way this wonderful brain works, but it is obviously a gift from God.

Music – I’ve not heard him listen to Opera, but I know there are many things I have to learn about him still.

Romantic – this is true. He did bring me candy and flowers on our first Valentine’s Day. I was working at Applebee’s, and when I left work, there was a single red rose on my car. I called him on my way home, as was my normal routine, and at the end of the conversation, he said “can you come unlock the door, it’s kinda cold out here.” The reason this is such a big deal is because I lived in Rome, 1 and a half hours away from him, and we had planned on celebrating over the weekend. I was so surprised!!! He had the rest of the dozen roses, and a box of chocolates. Very sweet!

Passionate – hmm, definitely not gonna say too much here . . . I am a people pleaser – always wanting to make others happy. He is a wife pleaser. This has been quite an issue in our marriage, because I have had to stop and focus on me and what I want, so that I can tell him. I have never had to stop and do this before. I will say that doing so has definitely paid off! ;)

ROCK ON. Now if I can actually get your theories to WORK I wouldn’t be single now would I. Chix should take a lesson from you.

Whatever dood. You said you wanted to start/join a baptist monestary. I couldn’t even find a record of such a thing existing. Just kidding (about the “whatever” part, not about trying to find one, I did try, couldn’t find.)

Ladies, Jeremy is certifably a geek, and he’s a cool dood.
